Thank you, Julie! I think the examples of Bobby MeFerrin and Michael Schroeder are even more striking because it's not what you would expect at a concert. Of course, that unexpectedness is what makes it all the more meaningful.

I appreciate your comments, Georgia! Thank you :)

You hit the nail on the head -- it's all about WIIFM for the employer. If you can clearly demonstrate how your skills and knowledge will enhance their objectives, they will be more excited to have you come in and then execute your ideas.

Melissa, this is so good! You are always good but this is amazing! I love the Bobby McFerrin example. Having just been at my friend, Michael Schroeder's concert where he brought the entire preschool and dayschool class up to do one song and let them take over to sing one of his songs, audience participation with many songs, and his tradition of ending every song with praise God, I love it!

I love this post, Melissa. I think that the concept of humility is easily forgotten in most personal branding strategies. It's important to remember that employers don't care all that much about the awesome things you can do, but more about the awesome things you can do FOR them. You did a great job of pointing out common mistakes in this post, and the analogy you used was perfect. Look forward to reading more of your stuff!

Thanks for the kind comment, Hannah! You are right -- it does become more memorable for the other person. As a result, you go to the forefront of his/her mind when opportunities arise because you've demonstrated how you can add value to a situation and to other people.
